No Footprint Wood House

The No Footprint Wood House is located along the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Its bioclimatic design integrates with the surrounding lush tropical forests and natural habitat. The project forms part of the multi-award winning No Footprint House series. Climate-responsive building variations are based on passive design strategies. Industrial building techniques and prefabricated components are combined with locally harvested and regenerative construction materials. The project promotes integral sustainability in terms of its social, economic, environmental and spatial performance.

Playful Hut

Playful Hut is reusable packaging designed for a large energy storage product. The packaging is made from biodegradable corrugated and honeycomb cardboard, which provides load bearing strength and cushioning during transport. Tongue-and-slot connections replace glue and plastic. Easy-tear perforations allow users to open hollow spaces and remove paper blocks, so the outer box becomes a playhouse and the inner tray becomes toy furniture. The box unfolds on four sides for easier handling. The aim is to reduce material waste and extend the useful life of packaging.

Box Factory

This Zero Energy, low carbon project has operational data that confirms its actual performance. It is an all electric building that relies on onsite solar to meet its energy needs, with heat pumps providing heating and cooling. Careful siting and form work as hard as the systems, with the building oriented to local wind patterns and sun angles. Box Factory integrates climate resilience, innovation, and community impact through thoughtful design. During the 2022 Electra Fire, which burned 4,500 acres in Amador County, the project proved itself resilient and climate ready.

Floating House

The Floating House is a three-level home located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. The building measures about 400 square meters and is placed on a sloping hillside site. Passive design strategies guide the project, including site-specific positioning and the use of natural resources. Industrial and prefabricated building techniques are combined with locally harvested and regenerative materials. Large roof overhangs protect the spaces below from rain and solar radiation. Solar energy is collected on the roof. Terraced gardens and balconies face the surrounding landscape.

Briiv Pro

Briiv Pro is an air purifier designed for use in homes and offices. Briiv Pro replaces fossil-fuel derived plastics with bioplastics, moss, coconut fibre and recyclable glass. The unit stands 30 centimetres tall, measures 16 centimetres in diameter and weighs 1.3 kilograms. An onboard air quality sensor allows Briiv Pro to adjust the fan speed automatically. Control is possible through an LED interface, a proximity sensor for touchless use, or a mobile application. Several units can be linked to clean the air in larger spaces. Power use and filter replacement costs are kept low.
