Natural Composite Pillar

The prototype is one of the largest 3D printed biological artifacts today, created using a novel sustainable manufacturing technology deploying exclusively natural materials: Cellulose, which is the most abundant biomaterial on earth, associated with plant matter, and Chitin, a biomolecule extracted from the exoskeleton of insects and arthropods. The physical and mechanical material properties are in the range of high-density synthetic foams and low-density timbers. The artifact is based on renewable sources, widely available in nearly every ecosystem and naturally biodegradable.

Nightingale

This packaging has been designed both to reflect the nightingale bird, known for it’s powerful song, and to reflect it’s nest - a naturally eco-friendly wooden home. Today, there's huge problems with wasteful, costly and unnecessary packaging. Nightingale combats this loud and clear. Made exclusively with natural products to reduce the waste and directly inspired from their actual habitat, the idea was not only to be ecologically less impact but to actually give back to nature. Instead of throwing away the packaging after unboxing, hang it up on a tree and watch little birds take shelter.

Ivc Beyond Flooring

The exhibition booth was designed to reconnect people with the core of IVC: the mother rolls of the base materials. They were upcycled & integrated in the heart of the booth. The rolls are used as an architectural element and can be used again in production after the trade show. The design illustrates the vision that IVC wanted to communicate: to think beyond flooring. The floor of the booth also contained a work of art by Glenn Sestig, demonstrating the possibilities of the collection.

Freebooter

Designed and developed by Amsterdam-based studio GG-loop, the residendial project is an expression of the studio’s philosophy of responding to the design brief with the experience and well-being of the end-user in mind. The movement of the sun year-round was studied to create the parametric shape and positioning of the building’s louvers, allowing optimal sunlight to flood the apartment while at the same time maintaining the necessary privacy of the inhabitants. The floor-plan and organic lines were also created with careful consideration to daily use and the typical tasks of the dwellers.

Carbon Activated Timber

Carbon Activated Timber Bench is designed for public areas and is made from reclaimed wood planks. It challenges the notions of weight and stability. While the volume of the wood planks appears as seemingly massive blocks, they are only loosely connected and in an unstable state. Tiny threads of carbon fibres tie the massive blocks together to give them their stability. They also reinforce the blocks to even add strength to the wood planks.
